York

Place: York
Description: A large country garden

A generous family garden that offers three different areas – a public space for entertaining friends and extended family, with a large dining area and outdoor kitchen, a more private space for the immediate family to come together, with more relaxed seating and a lawn for outdoors games, and individual spaces, offering quiet, wilder, personal retreats within the garden. Each of these different areas have their own unique atmosphere, whilst still forming part of a cohesive and connected design.

The use of a variety of different colours within the garden was very important to the client. Plant selection was key to set the mood for the different areas within the space. In the more public areas of the garden, large swathes of grasses have been used to provide a backdrop for architectural perennials and annuals in oranges, yellows, pinks and purples. In the private family area, the colours are muted pinks and purples on a backdrop of deep green. Finally, the individual areas of the garden are much wilder and echo woodland edge planting, with lots of different tones of green, in many different plant forms.
